Started his idol training in 2005 and debutted right after entering SM, being one of the trainees to have the shortest trainee period at the time with less than 4 months. He already had vocal training before entering SM.
Debutted with Super Junior in 6 November 2005 and became part of the first sub-unit in K-Pop, Super Junior-KRY, plus he is part of sub-unit Super Junior-M.
He debutted as solo artist in 2016 with the release of The Little Prince, but participated in dramas OST and was the first member to feature a solo song in a full album of the group, One Fine Spring Day.

His family is made of his mother, father and his wife, Ari who is a former member of TAHITI and married in 2024.
His unique name was given by his grandparents who are north-koreans. His cousin has another unique name by the same reason.
His ultimate bias is Bada from S.E.S and he has his club ID in his wallet. Due to a lot of connections, they released a collab song, Cosmic love, and she was in the front row to his wedding.
He is Yuqi(I-DLE)'s bias who people joke she chose her public name inspired by him. She unfortunately couldn't go to his wedding due to schedules.
He was the first SM idol to accompany the SM Classics in a recording and had been on multiple stops with them in Europe and Tokyo.
